MISCARRIAGE & PREGNANCY LOSS SUPPORT

When Your Pregnancy Ends, And No one Understands

Be heard, begin processing what happened and feel supported in whatever comes next.

Personalised emotional and physical support following miscarriage, recurrent miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy or molar pregnancy, with a registered midwife who understands that the pregnancy may have ended, but your experience has not.

You May Have Been Given Very Little Information, but you are Left With So Many Questions

Whether you conceived naturally, through IVF, IUI or another fertility treatment, miscarriage is still the loss of your pregnancy and the future you had begun to imagine.

You may have been told that miscarriage is common or that it was “one of those things”. Those words may have been intended to reassure you, but they do not answer the questions that can continue long after the physical symptoms have ended.

Questions Like

  • Why did this happen?

  • Did I do something wrong?

  • Could something have been missed?

  • Will it happen again?

  • Should I try again immediately?

  • or would it be safer never to put myself through this again?

You may feel frightened, confused, angry or guilty. You might feel disconnected from your body, your partner, your friends or the people whose pregnancies appear to be continuing without difficulty.

Perhaps your body seems to have recovered while emotionally you are still living through the moment everything changed.

You do not have to decide what comes next before you have had the opportunity to process what has already happened.

Miscarriage Can Affect Far More Than the Baby Taken Away

There is no correct way to respond to pregnancy loss.

You may be grieving your baby and the future you had already begun to imagine.

  • You may desperately want to become pregnant again as soon as possible.

  • You may want another baby but feel terrified that another pregnancy will bring another loss.

  • You may be unable to contemplate trying again, or uncertain whether you still want to.

You may also be experiencing feelings about your feelings: guilt because you feel angry, shame because you feel jealous, pressure to be positive or confusion because grief does not look the way you expected.

None of this means that you are coping badly.

It means that something important happened to you and that your mind and body may need more support than you have received.

Did You Know.....?

in the first three months, approximately one in five women will miscarry following a positive pregnancy test.

Vaginal bleeding occurs in approximately 15–25% of early pregnancies. Bleeding does not always mean miscarriage

Recurrent miscarriage (three or more early miscarriages) affects approximately 1% of women.

The miscarriages do not need to be consecutive.

A UK Study concluded that:

One month after early pregnancy loss

29% of women met screening criteria for post-traumatic stress, 24% experienced moderate-to-severe anxiety and

11% experienced moderate-to-severe depression

Nine months after a miscarriage around one in six women continued to experience post-traumatic stress, demonstrating that the emotional impact does not end when the physical care ends

You Deserve Support For What Happened and What Comes Next.....

Your pregnancy may have ended, but its impact does not end when the bleeding stops or the hospital appointments are over.

You may be grieving your baby and the future you had already begun to imagine. At the same time, you may be searching for an explanation, questioning your body and wondering whether anything could have been different. Being told that miscarriage is common or that it was “one of those things” rarely quietens those questions.

When we work together, we begin with your experience. Exploring what happened, what you were told, what you were not told and how the loss has affected the way you now feel about yourself, your body and the possibility of another pregnancy.

As a registered midwife, fertility specialist and acupuncturist, I can support both sides of what you are carrying: the emotional impact of losing your pregnancy and the physical questions that may remain afterwards.

Where it is helpful, we can look more closely at your pregnancy and fertility history, menstrual and hormonal patterns, inflammation, cellular health and egg and sperm health. We can also identify questions or possible investigations that you may wish to raise with your GP or fertility team..

Sometimes there is no single explanation for a miscarriage, and I will never invent certainty where it does not exist. But not having an immediate answer does not mean that your questions should be dismissed or that there is nothing worth exploring.

You do not have to choose between grieving the pregnancy you lost and wanting to understand how to move forward. There is room for both.

Frequently Asked Questions After Miscarriage

Can I ask for support after only one miscarriage?

Yes. You do not need to experience recurrent miscarriage before the emotional or physical effect of a loss deserves attention. Being able to get pregnant isn't the presenting challenge here. Staying pregnant is the challenge, so it is important to support your body for this.

You may not yet meet NHS criteria for recurrent-miscarriage investigations, but you can still talk through what happened, consider your health and fertility history and understand which questions may be helpful before another pregnancy.

Could There Be a Reason for My Miscarriage That Has Not Yet Been Considered?

Possibly. Many miscarriages are caused by chromosomal changes that happen by chance, and sometimes no single explanation is found. However, that does not mean there are no relevant questions to ask, particularly if you have experienced more than one loss.

Miscarriage is often investigated primarily through the woman, but current research increasingly recognises that sperm health may also be relevant. Sperm contributes half of your baby’s genetic material, and factors such as sperm DNA fragmentation, oxidative stress, paternal age and general health may influence early embryo development.

There may also be aspects of your own health that have not yet been explored fully. Thyroid function, thyroid antibodies, hormonal patterns, blood-sugar regulation, PCOS, inflammation can all be relevant in recurrent miscarriage. So looking at the whole picture and piecing it all together is very important.

Did stress or something I did cause my miscarriage?

You did not cause your miscarriage by having an anxious day, working, exercising, having sex, arguing, lifting something or failing to remain positive.

Emotional and physical wellbeing are important, but they should never be used to make you responsible for your loss.

Part of our work may involve releasing the guilt attached to what happened and helping you understand the difference between supporting your future health and blaming yourself for the past. Many women blame themselves.

When can I try to become pregnant again after a Miscarriage?

There is no single emotionally correct time to try again.

Your physical circumstances and any medical advice you have received must be considered, particularly following ectopic or molar pregnancy or where treatment or further monitoring is required.

Emotionally, readiness is not measured in a set number of months. You may feel ready quickly, need more time or change your mind more than once. We can explore what feels right for you without pressure.

What if I am too frightened to try again after a Miscarriage?

Fear following miscarriage is understandable. Another pregnancy may represent everything you want while also exposing you to the possibility of another loss, which can feel quite frightening and hard to consider.

You do not have to eliminate every anxious thought before trying again. Support can help you process what happened, understand your triggers and approach a future pregnancy with more resources, greater body confidence and a plan for the moments when fear becomes louder.
