Morning Sickness

Using my years of expertise, I’ve crafted support and treatment that provide the most effective results.

When Pregnancy Doesn't Feel Like You Imagined

Because feeling or being constantly sick isn’t something you just have to ‘get through’.

Morning sickness is often dismissed as part of pregnancy, but for many women, it’s all-consuming.

From constant nausea to vomiting that leaves you depleted and exhausted, it can affect everything: your ability to eat, sleep, work, and connect with your pregnancy. In severe cases, women have carried the guilt of considering termination just to stop the symptoms!

You ARE NOT:

  • making a fuss.
  • just being sensitive.
  • And no—it’s not something you have to ‘just wait until it passes’.

Being a midwife specialising in this area due to the lack of understanding and compassion, know that I’ve supported countless women through morning sickness and hyperemesis. This isn’t just about reducing the nausea and/or vomiting. It’s about helping you restore your energy, and giving you space to enjoy your pregnancy - your way.

My Signature Approach

Morning Sickness (nausea and vomiting in pregnancy), can begin as early as 5–6 weeks and continue right the way through pregnancy or return in the third trimester. For many, it can become a debilitating experience. While the term suggests symptoms occur in the morning, they can strike at any time of day or night, making everyday tasks feel overwhelming.

Every woman’s experience of morning sickness is different, which is why this support is not ‘one-size-fits-all’.

My package combines the very best of:

✔️ Midwifery insight to assess for any red flags or complications, and ensure your safety

✔️ Complementary therapies, such as acupuncture and aromatherapy, with a strong evidence base for reducing pregnancy sickness

✔️ Tailored care - because the underlying causes can vary, and your treatment should reflect that

Why This Works:

Acupuncture is backed by strong evidence for reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnancy, but understanding the root causes and treating those

really supports effective results.

Morning sickness isn’t just a physical response. It’s also emotional:

  • The fear of not coping
  • The guilt of not enjoying your pregnancy
  • The isolation when nobody seems to take it seriously

When Morning Sickness Turns to Desperation:...

It doesn't matter if we fail or make mistakes or we make suggestions. We always try to put an example.

Morning Sickness, Stress & Inflammation

Held the goal to launch our version 0.5 and made a lot of mistakes. We will try our best.

Frequently Asked Questions...

1. What Causes Morning Sickness?

Morning sickness is complex and individual. Yes, it’s largely driven by hormonal changes, especially rising hCG and a hormone called GDF15 that’s made by the placenta. But it’s also influenced by your nutritional stores, inflammation, emotional load, genetics, stress, and even how many babies you’re carrying.

Even things like past dental work, a history of trauma, or vitamin and mineral deficiencies can play a part. This is why I take time to understand your full picture because there’s rarely one single cause, and there’s never a one-size-fits-all fix.

2. When does morning sickness usually start and stop?

For most, it begins between weeks 6–8 and eases by 14–16 weeks. But it doesn’t follow the same script for everyone. Some women feel it earlier, others much later. And even if your symptoms settle in the second trimester, they can return in the third which is often due to hormonal shifts, pressure from the growing baby, or cumulative fatigue.

Some women experience nausea or vomiting throughout the entire pregnancy. That doesn’t mean something’s wrong it just means your body needs ongoing support. This is about managing symptoms, not just waiting them out. You don’t have to suffer in silence.

3. What’s the difference between morning sickness and hyperemesis gravidarum (HG)?

See the table in my blog "Morning Sickness, Stress & Inflammation" for a quick comparison

Morning sickness can be deeply unpleasant, symptoms may include nausea, occasional vomiting, and a general aversion to smells or food. HG is something else entirely.

This is when nausea becomes unrelenting and vomiting is constant, leading to weight loss, dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, and emotional burnout. If you feel like you’re barely surviving, please know there’s help, and there are ways to ease this.

4. What are Safe Treatments for severe nausea in pregnancy?

Treatment needs to be tailored to you. Options may include:

  • Vitamin B6 (safe in pregnancy)
  • Prescription anti-sickness (known as antiemetics) like ondansetron or cyclizine
  • IV fluids and electrolyte support
  • Acupuncture, acupressure, reflexology
  • Aromatherapy with therapeutic-grade essential oils
  • Sound therapy
  • Blood sugar stabilisation and anti-inflammatory nutritional support

The key is an individualised plan not just crossing your fingers and hoping it passes.

5. Can morning sickness harm my baby?

Mild to moderate morning sickness is actually linked with healthy pregnancy outcomes. But if you’re severely dehydrated, malnourished, or not absorbing nutrients, it can start to impact both you and baby.

This is why early intervention matters. You shouldn’t have to be hospitalised before anyone listens.

6. Why is my morning sickness worse at night—or all day?

It’s rarely limited to mornings (despite the name). Some feel worse with an empty stomach, others with strong smells, or when they’re tired, anxious, or overstimulated.

Evening sickness is real, often made worse by blood sugar dips and sheer exhaustion. At night lying down and getting up quickly may affect the severity. What your body needs may change throughout the day and tuning into those shifts can help us plan the right support.

7. Are there natural remedies that actually help morning sickness?

The short answer is YES Absolutely. However, because the root causes and factors that contribute to morning sickness can be wildly different from person to person, what works for one person may not be as effective or effective at all for another.

  • Ginger (tea, capsules, or fresh) - may make things worse if your body is craving cool things
  • Peppermint or lemon essential oils - may make things worse if your sense of smell is heightened
  • P6 acupressure wristbands may not be effective if not positioned correctly
  • Magnesium baths or sprays, but this is a mineral deficiency so looking at nutrition may be more effective.
  • Hydration with electrolytes is probably the most effective thing you can do so don't become very unwell through severe dehydration
  • Eating small, protein-rich snacks regularly

But again it’s about your triggers and needs. My approach combines evidence with intuition to build something that supports your body, not just suppresses symptoms. Having been consulting and treating for years, I have seen it all.

8. Is it normal to still have nausea in the second trimester?

Not what I would say is normal or common but Yes, sickness can be with you still in the 2nd trimester, especially if you're dealing with HG or higher GDF15 levels.

While many women feel better after 14 weeks, others don’t get relief until 20+ weeks. And for a small number, symptoms persist throughout pregnancy.

If this is you, you deserve ongoing care and a plan that adapts with you—not just a shrug and a “wait it out.”

9. Why did I have hyperemesis in my last pregnancy—will I get it again?

Sadly, yes—many women do. HG often returns in future pregnancies, especially if you carry the same GDF15 sensitivity or have unresolved inflammation or trauma. See my blog "Morning Sickness, Stress & Inflammation" to read more.

But here’s the difference: this time, we can be prepared. Knowing your triggers and having a care plan in place early can make all the difference.

10. When should I see a doctor or midwife about pregnancy nausea?

If you’re:

  • Vomiting more than 3–4 times a day
  • Struggling to keep fluids or food down
  • Losing weight
  • Feeling dizzy, faint, or emotionally unwell

This is really about making sure you don't become very unwell from severe de-hydration. The body can cope without food but not without water. Your baby will take what it needs, this is about You.

It is possible to manage symptoms effectively through complementary therapies. You deserve someone who listens, understands HG physiology, and offers real, layered care. I will always take you seriously.

Hyperemesis Gravidarum (Severe Morning Sickness)

After the 1st session it was the first time I had been able to  sit upright downstairs having been in bed for approx. 4 weeks.  Thank you, as it meant I was with my family on Christmas Day.

Thank you for your support because unfortunately, Hyperemesis is not something all midwives understand.

Morning Sickness

I can't thank Sam enough for helping me get past my debilitating nausea and food aversions during morning sickness. I wish I had known about her sooner! The consultation and what she picked up from it was amazing she knew exactly where to target. After the three sessions my symptoms were completely gone and it is a relief to not be sick and have constant nausea and have quality of life back and be able to eat most foods again is amazing
