Over Due Baby

Helping Babies Come in Their Own Time — With Calm, Confidence, and Care.

Are you Overdue and Feeling Pressured to have your labour Induced?

Reaching your due date without signs of labour can feel frustrating - even worrying, especially when pressure to be induced begins to mount. Many women are offered medical induction automatically at 10 to 12 days past your due date (Referred to as 40+10 to 40+12), often with little explanation or personalised discussion.

But being “post-dates” simply means your baby hasn’t arrived according to the estimated date you were given — not that your pregnancy is dangerous or abnormal. Your body is still working beautifully.

As an experienced midwife, I offer calm, evidence-based support to:

  • Encourage your body’s natural readiness for labour
  • Help you avoid unnecessary interventions
  • Equip you with clear, confident information to advocate for your choices

Choose Your OverDue Support Option:

Overdue Treatment & Support (Post Dates)

This package is for women who want natural, midwife-led support to encourage spontaneous labour — and to make decisions from a place of clarity, not pressure. It is backed by audited results in NHS services which show reduction in induction of labour, spontaneous onset of labour and reduction in intervention when in labour.

What’s Included: - Up to 2 in-person sessions, ideally spaced 3–4 days apart - A tailored combination of: - Acupuncture - Acupressure - Aromatherapy (with oils to take home) - Biomechanics and positioning support - Decision-support consultation with full explanation of current NHS policy, induction timelines, and your rights - Support to advocate for your birth preferences, particularly if declining induction - Optional postnatal recovery session if labour follows naturally

Location: In-person sessions available in North Wales (address given at time of booking).

Overdue Treatment & Support - Online

If you’re not able to attend in person, you can still access professional, evidence-based care through my remote Post-Dates Support service.

This online consultation is based on the same audited protocol shown to effectively support spontaneous labour — using acupressure, aromatherapy, and movement-based techniques that can be safely used at home.

What’s Included:

  •  1:1 virtual consultation to assess your history, timing, and preferences
  • Personalised plan using the exact techniques referenced in clinical audits
  • Guidance on aromatherapy and positioning to support natural labour onset
  • Visual resources and PDF guides for confident at-home use
  • Full discussion of your rights and options if you’re facing pressure to induce

What the Data Shows:

Across the UK, more women are being induced than ever before:

  • Spontaneous labour fell from 64% to 43% (2012–23)
  • Inductions rose from 23% to 33%
  • Pre-labour Caesareans increased from 13% to 23%

 Source: NHS Maternity Statistics, 2023

More recent figures from Welsh Government data (2023) highlight the same trend:

  • Only 45% of labours began spontaneously in 2023, continuing a long-term downward trend
  • 37% of babies were delivered by caesarean section — the highest percentage on record
  • 21% of all deliveries were via emergency caesarean
  • 17% were via elective caesarean
  • Less than 2% of births occurred at home — the lowest proportion on record
  • The percentage of low birthweight singleton babies remained at 6%

These figures reflect organisational trends, not personal need. The increase in induction and surgical birth is about policy, not physiology. Many women would go into labour naturally, given the chance.

The Legal Position: Guidelines Are Not Rules

You have the right to make informed decisions about how and when you give birth. That includes declining or delaying induction of labour.

Under the legal standard set by Montgomery v Lanarkshire [2015], NHS providers must ensure you: - Receive all relevant information - Understand the risks and benefits of each option - Are supported to make a decision that is right for you

Hospital policies are not legally binding. They are population-based guidelines — and you are entitled to personalised care. I will help you explore all your options, calmly and confidently.

Why Your Due Date Might Be Wrong...

Most NHS due dates are calculated using the Naegel’s Rule of calculating your date of conception which assumes you have a 28-day cycle with ovulation on day 14. But many women: - Ovulate later than day 14 - Have longer or irregular cycles - Conceive after assisted reproduction

That means your baby may be perfectly on time, even if you’re labelled “post-dates.”

I’ve supported many women who birthed safely at 42–43 weeks — not by delaying care, but by receiving individualised support, not blanket policy.

Check out what my clients say...

Hypermesis Gravidarum (Severe Morning Sickness)

After the 1st session it was the first time I had been able to  sit upright downstairs having been in bed for approx. 4 weeks.  Thank you, as it meant I was with my family on Christmas Day.

Thank you for your support because unfortunately, Hyperemesis is not something all midwives understand.

BIRTH PREPARATION

I contacted Sam for Birth Preparation when the doctors wanted to induce me.

I got to 5 cms before having any pains, then boom - 1 hour later he was here. A very swift labour and not a stitch in sight.  Thank you so much for everything you did prepping me, definitely helped.

PELVIC GIRDLE PAIN

After one treatment...

Things have definitely improved.  I'm still getting a bit of pain, however, I've been able to do loads more at home.  I'm not getting any pain pottering around at home, not had to use my support belt, so I am optimistic that it's been very useful for me.

BIRTH TRAUMA & BIRTH PREPARATION

Cannot Thank you enough! You covered absolutely everything.

After my waters broke he was here 1 hour 30 mins later, a bit fast and furious.

You were right, the preparation is key -  I would have honestly lost my head if it wasn't for our prep!

BIRTH PREPARATION

Thank you so much for your sessions, they still induced early. Had pessary and was 2cms at 9pm, baby was born at 12:24. The midwife said the labour is recorded from 4cms - baby being out as 53 minutes!!

I can't believe how quickly it all went, the midwife didn't really believe me you know. You helped me find my voice and have confidence in my decisions. The difference, someone who listens. I will be forever grateful for that.

PGP & BIRTH PREPARATION

Struggling to sleep & restricted mobility, started birth prep and acupuncture at 37 weeks. I benefitted immediately after my 1st acupuncture session. My 1st birth was 14 hours in active labour, epidural and assisted forceps, the 2nd 2qw 40 minutes in active labour, Tens machine and gas & air, water birth, mood lighting and relaxing music. No interventions or tears. I honestly can't thank or recommend Sam enough for everything. I wish I had been recommended to her on my 1st birth.

BIRTH PREPARATION

I had a very quick labour and delivered in the pool. I started with mild period type pains around midnight (I ignored as best I could), My waters broke at 02:15 and was 4cms at that check. I was fully dilated by 5:30am and she was born 20 minutes later at 05:50. Amazing for a 1st baby.

I am all about the acupuncture now, will be singing your praises for years to come!

(I saw Carys with her 2nd baby too)

BIRTH PREPARATION REQUEST FOR ANON PHOTO

You were right - the only one out of 5 midwives to diagnose my baby as lying back to back, but I easily managed my labour with the Tens machine and Gas & Air.

I think your birth preparation made such a difference for me to have a controlled and relaxing birth where I had all the knowledge I needed from you.

I would recommend anyone comes to see you to be fully prepared. Thank you again.
